Geoff Noble

Hi, my name is Geoff Noble. I am a Chartered Accountant and CFA Charterholder with over 10 years financial services experience. I run my own consultancy firm, Noble Brothers Consult (NBC). NBC is a private company based in Durban, South Africa. NBC provides various professional services but specialises in technology solutions for financial services companies.   Currently, NBC’s main project is the design and implementation of a Simulation Tool (SST) at Grindrod Asset Management. The SST is a Monte Carlo multivariate autoregressive time series simulation of a number of investment asset classes (a mouthful, I know!). The SST assists users to choose a suitable investment portfolio.   My professional experience includes corporate finance, financial modelling, due diligence, corporate advisory, valuations, investment analysis and portfolio management. I also develop and implement financial models to assist with decision making. Models range from discounted cash flow models, annual/monthly budgeting, capital projects, Monte Carlo simulation amongst others.   I enjoy getting involved in the local Finance community.I lectured Portfolio Management to students of the University of KwaZulu/Natal. I am also a regular volunteer for the CFA Society South Africa. I represent the Society at events in KwaZulu/Natal and mentor university students in the Annual CFA Institute Research Challenge.   My computer skills include Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Visual Basic for Applications. I am currently learning Python and C#. Although I am still a beginner, I enjoy of the problem-solving aspect of computer programming. I have also completed courses in Psychology and Introduction to Machine Learning and recently completed a Data Analyst Nanodegree through the online education company, Udacity.   My hobbies are reading and writing. I published one book, Forget the Noise (available on Amazon). Forget the Noise details my investment philosophy for the layman. I also write on my blog (www.forgetthenoise.co.za).
